In August 1984 the first PowerMan UPS was manufactured in Johannesburg South Africa, and sold to a Company called True Foods, it was the start of an incredible journey that has now covered nearly 40 years. The product and the company was the brain child of John Palmer, and he ran what was essentially a family business until he retired in 1997.
The two things that have remained constant in the PowerMan story is the fact that the company has always been a family run business, and we have always valued, and channelled business through our Dealer Network. It might be a little old fashioned and traditional, but we believe in looking after our channel partners. Over the past 39 years we have seen many companies come and go in the UPS industry, but fortunately PowerMan has always been a constant.
PowerMan started with one product in 1984, a 600VA on line UPS with a stepped square wave (stepped sine wave) output, designed by Charles Frizell, we quickly expanded that to include a 1KVA and 2KVA as well as full sine wave options. In the late 1980’s one of the international computer companies did a survey on all the UPS’s available in the local market and pronounced PowerMan as the best buy in a combination of performance and price. Our aim has been to retain that accolade over the years. We don’t want to sell you the cheapest backup solution, we want to provide you with the most cost effective solution.
